Speaking and Listening

Rationale-
The speaking and listening assignments were over the course of the whole year. The speaking and listening discussions were done about the book we read A Long Way Gone. In groups you would fill out a paper consisting of important quotes, questions and exerpts. Then in groups students would lead a discussion on the book. The main idea my group mainly focused on was unclear points of the book. This really helped understand the figurative language throughout. Speaking and listening were the targeted skills in this project. Student would work on developing a focussed topic and expanding upon what your piers say. The discussion usually last about 10 minutes with the purpose to fully develop your thought on the book.
Proof-

Standards-
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL. 9-10.1 Initiate and participate effectively in a range of collaborative discussions with diverse partners…building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively.
I met this standard because I always participated in every discussion and always encouraged others to participate. I focused on adding onto what my peers said and really tried keeping the conversations going. This is why I met this standard.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL. 9-10.1a Come to discussions prepared, having read and researched material under study; explicitly draw on that preparation by referring to evidence from texts and other research on the topic or issue to stimulate a thoughtful, well-reasoned exchange of ideas.
I came to ever discussion prepared always with the chapters read and ready to speak of my thoughts. I met this standard.

Reflection-
This was one of the more relaxing assignment of them all. I liked them for the reason that you don't feel rushed to turn something in you can just talk to your peers about unclear topic throughout the book. My favorite part of this is if you don't know or remember an event in the book you can just ask about it really develops your learning. The learning process of this was very enjoyable. This was my second favorite thing to do out of all the projects behind the genocide research project. The thing that went the best for me in this project was the part where you can discuss confusing points with your peers and learn of their views. The low of these discussions was when not everyone in the group read. It made it very hard to keep a conversation going.
